Catalyst: Directions: Separate the pile of cards into compounds and elements based on the particle diagram and then write the chemical formulas in the table provided below and answer the questions below. • Based on the particle diagram, how could you determine which cards were elements and which cards were compounds? • How are the chemical formulas for elements different from those from compounds? • If you had to come up with a general rule for how to tell whether a substance was an element or compound just from the chemical formula, what would it be?
