Scheduling materials: The Program of Studies 2014-2015 is available onlineat www.svsd.net(select Academics, then Program of Studies, then Grades 9-12). • Ninth grade registration form (yellow) • Tenth grade registration form (blue) • Scheduling presentation is available at www.svsd.net(select IHS, then Guidance).

  5. SV SV Credits Every class you take at Seneca Valley has a specific credit value. Semester course .5 credit Full year course 1.0 credit Full year course with lab 1.4 credit To earn credit, you must pass the class with a 60% or higher (final average).

History 2 (1860-1914) • Honors U.S. History 1 (1776-1860) Honors U.S. History 2 (1860-1914) The prerequisites for Honors History are a 90% in 8th grade Social Studies and recommendations from the current Social Studies and English teachers.

Completing the planning guide • Write all classes taken in 9th grade. • Do not include study hall or lunch. • Write credit value for each class. 0.5 credit for half year classes 1.0 credit for full year classes 1.4 credits for lab classes • Add all credits taken and place total in the bottom space.

  23. Study Halls • On site tutoring with math and English faculty members • Time to complete homework • Make up missed assignments from absences • Use of the library facility

  24. If you are taking Biology, Honors Biology, Chemistry or Honors Chemistry, write “lab/study hall” in the bottom space for both semesters.

  25. If you are taking Principles of Biology 1 and 2 or Principles of Chemistry 1 and 2 and want a study hall, write “study hall” in the bottom space.

  26. If you are taking Principles of Biology 1 and 2 or Principles of Chemistry 1 and 2 and want no study halls, complete all spaces with courses.

  27. Math/English/Biology Labs Based on individual performances on standardized tests, an additional English, Biology and or Math lab period may be added to your schedule in place of an elective or study hall. Placement will be determined by student performance on standardized assessments, as determined by the school district.

  28. World Language World language is often needed for college admission. Most colleges require 2-3 years on the high school transcript. Colleges vary on whether they will count the 8th grade world language toward their entrance requirements. Language taken in grade 8 will be reflected on an SV transcript. Honors level courses in World Language are available for 2nd and 3rd year students. Please consult your present teacher and the Program of Studies for prerequisites.

SV The Academy of Choice • Students may be enrolled full-time from home, part-time from home, or as a supplement to traditional classes. • Students will receive a letter grade that will be included in the QPA calculation. • The on-line cyber application must be completed for enrollment in a cyber course. • Summer cyber is available; contact your counselor or see website.

  32. Engineering Certification Program (ECP) • Students enroll in specific courses in one of four areas of coursework. • Students complete engineering-related graduation project. • Students earn certificate upon graduation. • Enrollment application and further information is available online at www.svsd.net/IHS/site shortcuts/ECP

Reminders for the Vo-Tech Program • If you are interested in vo-tech, complete a full schedule; then write the vo-tech course and number in the designated portion of your form. • Vo-tech programs have limited enrollment. You must return the vo-tech application with your schedule. Applications are available in the guidance office. • See your guidance counselor for more information on opportunities at the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School. www.bcvt.tec.pa.us

More reminders… • Pay close attention to the descriptions in the Program of Studies (course numbers, prerequisites, length, grade level). • The course listing contains a comprehensive list of all classes offered for the 2014-2015 school year. • Don’t forget to complete substitute courses on your form! • Signatures needed: core academic areas, 2nd and 3rd year of a world language, some performing arts courses

  36. Schedule Changes Course request changes can be made through the end of this school year. Teachers may make recommendation changes based on student performance during the second semester of this school year. An add/drop period at the beginning of the next school year is allotted.

  37. Ninth Grade Registration Pick-Up Students will be entering their course selections into the computer and turning their schedule forms in according to the following schedule: Monday, February 10 Eagles Tuesday, February 11 Condors Owls Wednesday, February 12 Falcons Hawks Please have your schedule completed and ready to turn in on that date.

  38. Tenth Grade Registration Pick-Up by English classes Thursday, February 6 Hazen, Mihalik, Wright Friday, February 7 Zaso, Zorich Rooms 109 and 113 Students will input schedule requests and submit completed forms.

  39. What’s Next? April: Course verifications are mailed. June: Deadline to submit schedule change requests August: Schedules are mailed.
