Shelter and Non Food Relief Present Scenario: Damage: Totally - 859,486 (GOB statistics as of 1 August) Partially - 3,115,646 ( “ ) Human cost: 19,875,660 people are shelterless • Lack of security and protection especially for women and children, • May lead to: Migration, Broken family, trafficking of women and children
Response to date • GOB: 3409 bundles of CI sheets, and Tk 5,900,000 allocated so far in 15 most affected Districts • SCF (UK): 15000 families, and Islamic Relief:6000 families – House repairing support (worth around $1.2 million) • MFDM approached UNDP for assistance
Critical Needs: Areas to be Addressed • House Repairing Support: 20% of partially damaged houses: 623,129 (14 Piece CI sheet (4200 Tk) and Tk1000 cash) Total cost: $54 million. • Complete house: 20% of the fully damaged(preference to households of female headed and elderly): 171,897 (15’x10’ house - Tk 14000 ($233 approx per house) Total cost : $40 million
Critical Needs: Areas to be Addressed 2 • Repairing of community facilities damaged by floods: Each family to get 60 days work to repair and rebuild community facilities like internal (earthen) village roads, rehabilitation of ponds, raising the school grounds etc. 5% of the affected families: 300,000 families Total cost: $15 million
Evolution • Housing is the first step of livelihood rebuilding; • Stop social disintegration: broken family, migration, increase of urban slums, prostitution; • People already started going back home; • Immediate support required; • GOB assistance might not be adequate;
