  1. Using E-Class Searching for position titles containing a key word or phrase

  2. This is a PowerPoint presentation of about five minutes duration. It will explain how to find job titles containing a particular word or phrase. You may exit the presentation at any time simply by closing the Window. Where this arrow appears, click on it to advance the slides.

  3. Search based on Position Title Because of abbreviations and acronyms in position titles, searching for an exact title will seldom yield results. It is always wiser to search on part of the title, namely a word or phrase that is distinct enough to reward your search of the database.

  4. Start a clean search by clicking “view/search”… This resets all the search default values.

  5. Search Example: Find descriptions containing “Facilities” This search technique exploits the Position Title field.

  6. Use a ‘wildcard’ search… Scroll down (click) to continue… %Facilities% E-Class is actually an Oracle database, so we use Oracle wildcard search methods. To search for “Facilities” insert it between two % signs, as shown above. This triggers a search based on “(any letters) Facilities (any letters)”.

  7. Execute the search… Searches are executed by clicking the Submit button

  8. Search results are displayed in table format… View this case file by clicking on the green hyperlink… The search yielded 16 positions containing the word “Facilities” Case files are viewed individually by opening them.

  9. This is a single case file (top portion) Click the blue hyperlink to open the document… The job description is found under “Related Documents”.

  10. The job description opens in Microsoft Word…

  11. If necessary, use your back key to return to the index… …to explore other job descriptions.

  12. End To return to the menu of presentations, simply close this window…
