KY Tech System of Schools The Office of Career and Technical Education’s state operated system of Kentucky TECH schools provides quality technical education through: • Secondary Institutions (buildings are locally owned by boards of education and the schools are state-operated by Kentucky TECH), including 55 area technology centers. • Training programs for business and industry designed to meet a company’s specific employee training needs.
KY Tech System of Schools The primary purpose of the area technology centers is to serve high school students by enhancing and expanding student career options that lead to continuation of education at the postsecondary level and/or successful employment upon graduation from high school.
KY Tech System of Schools Students receive instruction in sound academic principals, theory, laboratory and clinical experiences to ensure they can compete successfully in today’s changing workplace.
Maysville Community and Technical College • KCTCS – Kentucky Community and Technical College System • Two-Year college committed to gen. ed. prep and technical training • Mission of education and service • Primary educational mission is prepatory AA and AS degrees for four-year transfer • Primary service to the community is workforce enhancement and training
Dual Credit • Non-transferrable • Transcript is generated immediately • High School teachers teach classes • Technical courses • Free tuition
Dual Enrollment • Transferrable Credit • Transcript generated immediately • Instructors must be credentialled at the college level • General Education Courses • Student or school pays tuition and books
Articulation • Any credit a student could receive that has not been attained by dual credit / enrollment • Other states • Other colleges • H.S. w/o M.O.A. • Transcript generated upon transfer of credit
Approval Process • Curriculum must align to KCTCS • Task lists, curriculum • OCTE • Site • Instructor • SACS • Associates + Experience
Program Offerings • Program must be offered at KCTCS institution • M.O.A. must include program and course specifics and must be signed by all parties • Process must be outlined for inclusion of students in dual credit courses
Student Enrollment Process • High School requests courses • College builds courses into schedule • Applications are completed for EACH student • Course list is approved by each school • Students are entered into courses • Roster is returned and approved by H.S. • Grades are sent at the end of semester
Program and Course Titles • Students are entered into specific courses • WEL 120 / 121 • BRX 140 / 141 • Programs are KCTCS approved and must use established course descriptors • The battle comes from local districts • Welding I • Automotive III
