  3. Questions • Use of phonetic transcription • How do we most effectively learn standard pronunciation? • Written English and spoken TL • How do most effectively teach cultural knowledge? • Handouts & materials • How do we get ss engaged without creating a prep and/or management nightmare?

  4. Issues • Touching • Simple language (a.k.a. comprehensible input) versus non-grammatical language • What the ss will (likely) laugh at/be distracted by

  5. Issues • Management behavior versus activity behavior • Getting attention • Setting up partner/team work • Classroom commands • TL proficiency • “repeat after me” • “all together” • “again” or “one more time?” • “any questions?” • “Work in pairs to…”

  6. Partner work • Identify 5-7 key classroom commands that you need(ed) to make activity flow • Brainstorm a gesture that clearly represents that command • Write out the phrase/word in TL and ensure its accuracy • Find another team. Share ideas. Confirm TL accuracy. Then post on chart paper.
