  1. Parables and Accounts that Teach Eternal Truths Unit 2 Choice 2

  2. “The Children of This World Are in Their Generation Wiser Than the Children of Light” (p. 124). Luke 16:1–12 The Unjust Steward •  And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. •  2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. •  3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. •  4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. •  5 So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? •  6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. •  7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. •  8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. •  9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of themammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. •  10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. •  11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? •  12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?

  3. One can only serve one master. Wickedness can only bring about wickedness. The steward was prideful and did not want to face the consequences of his actions. To tbefaithful at the little things is greatness just as to be wicked in little things is to commit sin. The little things matter. Wickedness is not happiness

  4. Rich man and Lazarus Luke 16:19–31 This set of scriptures is teaching the principle of doing good deeds. Those who do not good, but doeth evil will be tormented for eternity. This was the case with the rich man. He had opportunity to do good and serve Lazarus by taking pity on him, but the rich man did not. And in death he learned that our earthly deeds determine our heavenly rewards.

  5. Ten Lepers Luke 17:11–19 Gratitude is the principle taught in these verses. It is shown by the one who turned back to Christ to thank Him for being healed. I believe the reason they were to go show themselves to the priests was so that the priests would witness the miracle. • GRATITUDE

  6. Unjust Judge Luke 18:1–8 In this parable a woman comes to the judge to ask to be avenged time and time again. The judge decides to avenge her only because he gets tired of hearing her ask. I think the principle of this is never to lower ones standards no matter what the circumstances.

  7. Pharisee and the Publican Luke 18:9–14 The principle taught in this set of scriptures is that of humility. One passage from the readings, Luke 18: 14, sums the whole set of scriptures up perfectly. It says, “…every one thatexalteth himself shall be abased; and he thathumbleth himself shall be exalted.”
