Contamination and Aging Task Group Risk Matrix - Ray Cherry
Contamination and Aging Task Group Task ; Obtain contamination survey information * Airline surveys * Benefit from EWIS Wiring Surveys Task ; Summarize survey information * Provide to Operations/Maintenance working groups * MSG3/Zonal informationTask ; Down select “contamination” types and test* Perform flammability testing and analysisTask ; Collecting precursor event dataInformation & activities required from other organizations;* Obtaining MSG3 Zonal Analysis for specific airplanes * Electrical equipment locations & risk of ignition potential
Contamination and Aging Task Group Define Deliverables • I. Risk Assessment and impact (probability) on overall airplane safety • Age of aircraft. Accumulation over-time? • Size - impact of fire based on aging • II. Recommendations on contaminate types and test method • Known contaminates (CIC, pesticides, etc.) and recommendations on use (hydrocarbons) • Standard material test method for contaminated in-service blankets • III. Recommendations for Contamination Mitigation • Type of aircraft / age of aircraft • Location / Zonal / Targeted • IV. Recommendations for Material Selection • Test for contaminate resistance • Location specific • Type of film / Film thickness • Address known issues with materials (e.g.. non-shrinking materials) • - Polyimide film • - Ceramic papers • - Foams (open vs. closed cell) • - Susceptibility to aging • V. Future technology recommendations for hidden areas • Risk assessment based for further technologies • Arc fault, detection, suppression, new fire resistant materials, etc… Hidden Areas
