The preposition “de” means: “of” or “from”. Use #1: Use “de” to communicate where someone is from.- origin Yo Soy de Dallas : I am from Dallas. ¿De dónde son ellos ?: Where are they from?. Use #2: SHOW OWNERSHIP ‘s is how we show ownership in English. Example: Tim’s Jeep.

  1. The preposition “de”means:“of”or“from”

  2. Use #1: Use “de” to communicate where someone is from.-origin Yo Soy de Dallas: I am from Dallas. ¿De dónde son ellos?: Where are they from?

  3. Use #2: SHOW OWNERSHIP ‘s is how we show ownership in English. Example: Tim’s Jeep. We do NOT have ‘S in Spanish. So, we will have to replace it with “de”. Tim’s jeep: el Jeep de tim…. I will explain steps to sentence order on board.

  4. Use #3: To indicate the type of something or the category of something. -Los libros de aventuras: adventure books -los libros de misterio: mystery books. We are communicating the type of book. You try: Science Fiction Films Las películas de cienciaficción.

  5. Use #4: Contraction de+el= del Whenever de is followed by “el”, you will make a contraction. This will not happen if de is followedby “él”!!!! Example: La clase del profesor. El helado de la muchacha El libro de Ethan. Las hamburguesas de los muchachos.
