  15. Demo Lets look at some of the SharePoint functionality.
  16. Deployment Options For quick and cheap there’s the basic install Uses SQL Express No or minimal configuration required Single server for everything Limited performance and scaling Use for test, development or “play” environments Do not use for production Be careful test/trial does not become production!
  17. Deployment Options For longevity do a full install Uses full version of SQL so needs a license Can require more hardware Requires configuration beyond install Scalable for performance Use for production environment Use for test and development environments too Requires planning for best ROI
  18. Deployment Stages Planning
  19. Deployment Timescales 6 – 18 months to Go Live date – can be longer. ( Depending on complexity of required solution )
  20. Deployment - Do’s and Don’ts Do get everyone involved No single business unit can design SharePoint Do get users Trained in their relevant skills area to help the design process Do establish a realistic timeframe Do think of quick wins Do plan for testing and re-design Do plan on adding functionality over time. Don’t try to make it too complex from day 1 Don’t copy your existing file structure Don’t let SharePoint become a dumping ground Don’t give users multiple places to do the same thing Don’t waste in house development time when a cheaper 3rd party product can do the job. Don’t forget the Backup and Restore Don’t forget the users – this is how you get your large ROI
  21. Getting Users Involved Use SharePoint for Social as well as business Consider user training Classroom based Computer based Self help Enable Mentors / team champions Most of all, empower your users
  22. Demo Combined Knowledge’s End User Adoption Solution.
  23. Quick Wins Encourages the use of SharePoint Increases ROI No boundaries – plan for everyone Does not have to be 100% work focused Social sites / sports club organisers Encourages people to do more in SharePoint The best quick wins are simple, no development or custom code
  24. Quick Win Examples Content Types Metadata and Views Online forms (requires InfoPath) Incoming email Workflow Search Let users manage their information
