  23. Program Area • The Professional Education Programs at Eastern Kentucky University are dedicated to preparing the highest quality educators and related professionals for Kentucky and beyond. Our graduates integrate content, effective pedagogical skills, and dispositions that foster life-long growth and learning. Being true to our heritage as a school of opportunity, EKU provides a climate that supports, challenges, and enriches students aspiring to careers in a diverse society.

  24. General Studies for Initial Teacher Preparation • The general studies will incorporate multicultural and global perspectives. All candidates will complete general studies courses and experiences in the liberal arts and sciences that lead to the development of theoretical and practical knowledge. The general studies will include course work from arts (art, theatre, music, dance), communications, history, literature, mathematics, philosophy, sciences, and the social sciences. These categories are located in the General Studies for Initial Teacher Preparation section of your DegreeWorks report. Consult with your advisor early in your program for proper course selection.

  25. CURRICULUM PLAN • DegreeWorks reports are designed to assist you in determining curriculum program requirements. DegreeWorks reports should be reviewed at the beginning of each term, during advising, and at the end of the term. You may access your DegreeWorks report via the web. Timelines for completing your program should be discussed with your advisor/educational counselor and with staff in the Office of Teacher Education Services (Bert Combs 423). Being familiar with program requirements, and requisites for registration will make your college experiences less stressful.

  26. Candidates are ultimately responsible for their progress through the program. • Candidates are encouraged to reference the Office of Student Teaching & Field Experiences section of the undergraduate catalog to assist in planning timelines for completing your program.
