Sanitarium Health Food Company • Sanitarium is the manufacturer of NZ’s favourite breakfast cereal, WeetBix. Sanitarium’s range includes breakfast foods, soy products, vegetarian foods and spreads. • Lisas Hummus is also owned by Sanitarium.
Food Technologist Why is it important to train panellists? Why is it important to have sensory evaluations? • Setting up a trained sensory evaluation taste panel • Product development and product improvement projects • Trouble shooting in the factory and waste minimisation projects 4 tastes, rancidity, competitors’ products What does it involve? Sourcing suppliers, trialling recipes, nutritional analysis, finalising recipes, presenting feasible samples to marketing and management, factory trials, shelf life trialling For example Honey Puffs. Output influenced by pressure, moisture and quantity

AsureQuality Ltd completes audit, inspection, verification and certification against international regulatory and retailer standards (e.g. organic and BRC) for cross-supply chain operations and production operations.
Food Quality Specialist • Audits and consultancy for food safety (HACCP), IVA, BRC, ISO and Organic • Supermarket’s “Approved Supplier” • Food Safety Training including NZQA assessments (food safety basics, food safety programmes etc) • Contractor for Site Safe’s “Store Safe Passport” training (for sales and marketing people that work in the supermarkets)
North’s Bun Company North’s Bun Company Ltd (now Freshstart Bakeries) manufactures all muffins, buns and bagels for McDonalds in New Zealand and the Pacific. The North group also owns SchenleysBakehouse, Pandoro Bakery and Richmond Foods (Rotorua).
Quality Manager • Development and maintenance of Food Safety Programmes for the bakeries and achieving and maintaining NZFSA exemption status. • Process improvement using 6 sigma (1g of dough saved per bun, producing 1.2 million buns per week), product development and shelf life studies (reduced sugar buns), nutrition labelling (bakery outlet opening)
DHL Supply Chain (NZ) Ltd DSC is a 3PL provider of warehouse and distribution services to the healthcare and FMCG industry employing over 500 staff involved in the storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals, FMCG and technology products. Operating from six sites in Auckland, one in Wellington and two in Christchurch.
National Quality Manager • Responsibility for ensuring compliance to all applicable statutes and regulations including; Medicines Act, Misuse of Drugs Act, Medicines Regulations, Biosecurity Act, Health & Safety in Employment, Environment Act and Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act. • Responsible for development and maintaining of the quality system. Providing training for all staff in GMP and OSH. • Responsible for QA agreements and internal, external, supplier audits (ISO 9001:2008/ RMP/ FSP/ ACVM/ MAF/ CAA/ Medsafe/ ACC WSMP/ Test Location Certificates/ Building WoF) across all 9 sites.
National Quality Manager • Great relationships with internal staff and management and externally with clients, suppliers and auditors (yearly average number of audits is 50). • Write and implement IQ/OQ/PQ protocols for warehouse and cold chain validation. • Facilities Management and Maintenance and contractor agreements for all NZ DSC sites • Responsible for Co-Packaging Department (annual revenue of $585K with clients such as Procter and Gamble, Johnson and Johnson Pacific, Novartis, Reckitt Benckiser, Bayer Healthcare, Pfizer and more). Increased revenue by over 40% in 2 years. • Promotion in 2007, reporting to the Managing Director, 9 direct reports (one of which is Employee of the Year 2008)
