Grade and Subject Earth Systems: 4. Observe and describe that some weather changes occur throughout the day and some changes occur in a repeating seasonal pattern. 5. Describe weather by measurable quantities such as temperature and precipitation. 2nd Grade Earth and Space Science Standards
Purpose • To understand the various water cycle, and understand how precipitation is produced. • Objectives: • Identify each parts of the water cycle, and determine what the definition is of each part • Identify different types of precipitation, and when they occur during a certain season
Words to Know: • Evaporation • Condensation • Precipitation • Water Cycle
Evaporation • When the sun brings water in rivers, ponds, or lakes and heats it enough to turn it into a vapor or a steam • This steam then comes into the air *Pink arrow represents evaporation
Condensation • When the steam from the rivers or ponds gets cooled in the air it turns back into a liquid, then forms clouds
Precipitation • This occurs when the clouds collect so much water, that they must release it back onto earth in the form of rain or snow
Types of Precipitation • Rain • Snow • Sleet • Freezing Rain • Hail
Water Cycle • The circulation of the earth’s water from various water collections: steps of evaporation, condensation, precipitation. The cycle continues
Test Your Knowledge.. • Please Answer the Following Questions Question Question Question Question 1 2 3 4
What heats up the water so that evaporation can take place? The Moon The Sun
What is rain and snow an example of? precipitation condensation
Which step of the water cycle forms clouds? Condensation Evaporation
When it rains is the water recycled or brand new? Recycled Brand New
I am sorry your answer is.. Incorrect, Please look over the earlier slides in the powerpoint.
