Semi-colon Rules • Rule 1: Use a semi-colon between independent clauses not joined by conjunctions like for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so (FANBOYS) • Garth Brook’s latest CD is selling rapidly ; he has become a major star. • Rule 2: Use a semi-colon between independent clauses joined by a conjunctive adverb or transitional expression such as therefore, furthermore, however, for example, etc. • I’ve called him repeatedly ; however, I’ve not been able to reach him.
Practice • 1. Call me tomorrow I will give you my answer then. • 2. You will want to bring backpacking items for example, bring sleeping bags and pans. • 3.
