Annual Measurable Objectives (AMO) • NCLB requires annual testing in grades 3-8 & at least once in high school in reading and mathematics. • NCLB requires schools, school divisions, and states to meet annual objectives for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for student performance in reading and mathematics. • For a school, division, or the state to make AYP it must meet or exceed 29 AMOs in statewide testing, achievement in reading and mathematics, and another academic indicator (science, history, writing, or attendance for elementary and middle schools; graduation for high school).
AYP Results for VA Divisions August 2009 • 21 divisions (16%) all schools and division made AYP • 59 divisions (45%) made AYP • 72 divisions (55%) did not make AYP • 1 division (<1%) were TBD August 2008 • 54 divisions (41%) made AYP • 78 divisions (59%) did not make AYP August 2007 • 58 divisions (44%) made AYP • 74 divisions (56%) did not make AYP August 2006 • 72 divisions (55%) made AYP • 52 divisions (39%) did not make AYP • 8 divisions (6%) were TBD
Safe Harbor Calculations • R 10: Met the objective due to a 10 % reduction in the failure rate. Subgroup must also meet the objective or show improvement in the Other Academic Indicator. • TS: Too Small to be Evaluated. (Less than 50 students in a subgroup at each level) • PP: Students with Disabilities—Met the objective when the Proxy Percent of 14% for English or 16% for Math was added. • I: Met the objective by showing improvement
