CREST Mission • Excellence in multidisciplinary research • Serve as resource center for the education of underrepresented students • Driving force to increase diversity in graduate education, particularly at the Ph.D. level in computer science and electrical engineering
EDUCATION OUTCOMES OVERVIEW • CREST’s programs have increased Hispanic enrollment in FIU’s PhD programs in computing from 13.3% to 22.8% • Roughly 10% of the US+Canada population of Citizen/Resident Hispanic Computer Science PhD students are enrolled in FIU’s program • 59 PhDs graduated from CREST—37% have been underrepresented minorities and 37% have been women vs. US totals are approx. 3% and 20% per year • 70 MS graduates – 49% underrepresented, 31% women Spring 2008 CREST PhD Graduates
