What is Job Corps??? • A federal Program that was created in 1964 • San Diego Job Corps opened in 1979 • Job Corps is a $30,000 a year scholarship program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor for students ages 16-24 Nationally Job Corps offers FREE career technical training in more than 100 career areas and education to those who are eligible
Job Corps Successes • Since its inception in 1964, Job Corps has guided nearly 2 million young people away from lives filled with poverty and unemployment, and steered them toward brighter futures filled with self-confidence, independence, and productive employment. • The Job Corps program is one of documented successes. Eighty-seven percent of Job Corps graduates are placed in jobs, enroll in full-time education, or enlist in the military. • Approximately 85% of students are residential; the remaining students commute to their centers daily. Students can be enrolled in Job Corps for up to two years. Enrollment in Job Corps is voluntary and programs are designed to allow students to progress at their own pace.
Job Corps offers! Job Corps succeeds in a way few other programs “public or private” do. It is a full-time, year-round primarily residential program that offers comprehensive vocational training, education and supportive services, including supervised dormitory housing, meals, medical care, and counseling. • Graduates can receive up to a $1000 bonus once they have completed and find employment in their related career path
Who is Eligible? • 16-24 yrs old • U.S. resident or have documents to support their legal right to be in the U.S. • Minors MUST have consent from parents or legal guardian. • Can demonstrate need for academic and/or career training • You must be released from any court supervision before you can start the interview process. Also must be free from mandated court hearings/pending appearances. • Does not owe more than $500 in fines. • Meet low income requirements.

Career Development Services System The Career Development Services System is Job Corps’ approach for providing seamless services to students to ensure their Success in the program! 4 Employment, Advance Training, Military, College, transportation, housing Career Transition 3 Career Development Career Technical Training, Academics Training 2 Center Life, Rules, CPP Counselor, Career Exploration, PCDP Career Preparation 1 Outreach and Admissions Program Overview, Eligibility and Suitability

Every student has the right to participate in the Job Corps Program without being subjected to violence or drug abuse. NO SMOKING policy strictly enforced!!! No designated smoking areas at all. You cannot walk off Center to smoke cigarettes. This include E-cigarettes and chewing tobacco.
Are you Ready for Job Corps? • Much of the program's success lies in its strict discipline and behavioral standards -- important for achieving success in life. Job Corps maintains a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence and drugs. Penalties for violations may be severe, including expulsion from the program. • Approximately sixteen percent of all new Job Corps students leave the program within the first 60 days of enrollment. This dropout rate reflects, in part, students who find they cannot adjust to the residential settings or the disciplined environment, or who have personal family needs which require them to return home.
A Typical Day on Center • 6am- Wake up • 6:30-7:30am Clean up & Breakfast • 8-4pm- Training/Academics Employability/Work based learning • 4-10pm Dorm Accountability Recreation Time • *After 4PM on Fridays, students can leave Center and go home for the weekend. Curfew is 10pm Non-Resident Please inquire with your admissions counselor for guidelines and details
