The Native Americans where the first people to settle in Salinas Valley. Salinas means salt mash in Spanish because of the large slough that ran in the area. California became a state on September, 9 1850. History of Salinas
Most ranches in the 1930s consistence of two barns, a command house, and a bunk house for hired help. The bunk houses were discussing and were filled with hay. Most of the time the help did not live alone and their homes were infested with mice, fleas, bed bugs, lice, termites, and other vermin. Plus most of the time it had dust in every square inch. But every once and a while there were maids to clean the house. Ranching
The Dust Bowl hit hard in the “Dirty Thirty,” so most people moved to California. The Great Depression also hit in The Thirty’s. World War II came swing in 1939.
