John Steinback John Steinback was born on February 27th in 1902 and died on December 20th in 1968 John Steinback was born in Salinas, California He went to college at Stanford University but never graduated John Steinback wrote a total number of 23 novels in all In 1919 John Steinback graduated from the Salinas High School In 1962, John Steinback received the noble prize for literature.
The 1930’s The 1930’s were during the Great Depression In 1931 “ The Star Spangled Banner” became the national anthem The Dust Bowl happened in the 1930’s The gold rush was starting in California On May 1st 1931 The Empire State building opened In 1932 president Roosevelt was elected Bonnie and Clyde were alive in the 1930’s but died on May 23rd 1934 Amelia Earhart disappeared in 1938
Ranching All ranches have at least one barn. Some have two. A bunkhouse is a room for “Hired helpers”. Farming in the 1930’s was considered the hardest thing to do in the world. The 1930’s changed the future of agriculture forever. Most of the food that the farmers grew on their farms was used to feed their families. When the grasshoppers ate the crops, the farmers were left with no money.
The Care Of Horses Horses usually live outside or in a barn. Horses require shelter from wind, rain, snow, hail and other things. Horses must have access to clean water at all times. They also need room to run around and exercise. In the winter, horses usually grow thick hair to keep warm. In the summer horses need access to shade.
History Of Salinas Small tribes of Native Americans first made their homes in Salinas Valley. Salinas, California is known as “The Salad Bowl of the World” Salinas grows 80% of the lettuce grown in the United States. Salinas is one of California’s richest farming communities. Salinas also grows strawberry’s, carrots, cabbage, watermelon and spinach. In 1874 the city of Salinas was incorporated.
Stetson Hats The word “Stetson” is sometimes used as a genericized term for a cowboy hat. The Stetson hat company eventually became the biggest hat company in the world. The company produces 3.3 million hats every year. Stetson is also known for its cologne and other products evoking the American west. Stetson University and Stetson University College of Law in Florida, were named after John B. Stetson in 1899 for his contributions to the school.
Cowboy Boots Traditional cowboy boots have narrow toes and high heels that slope under the foot. Cowboy boots were notoriously uncomfortable to walk in. Most cowboy boots that are sold now will be used to walk in and not to ride a horse. Cowboy boots were adapted for use on the range by German bootmakers. Cowboy boots are normally made from cow leather. There are two types of cowboy boots, western and roper.
Bonnie and Clyde Bonnie Parker was born October 1, 1910 in Rowena, Texas. In 1925 Bonnie met Roy Thornton and in a year they got married. In 1930 Bonnie met Clyde. Clyde Barrow was born in Telico, Texas on March 24, 1909. On October 16, 1929 Clyde was arrested with a few other men but was let go. Bonnie was 23when she died and Clyde was 24.
