Very few of the books or articles published between 1800 and 1975 • Perhaps 5% of current books • Trailers for many more items, but payment required for full text…. • Power: tool for communication and collaboration • Not a silver bullet • Anarchic (not organized) • Ephemeral (not reliable) • Perverted (by people with agendas) • Increasingly commercialized (decreasingly “free”). FDU Libraries

  5. Professional and Research Journals • Rutgers and Princeton • 60,000 journals @ $15 Million • ~ 25 NJ Colleges &Universities - 35,000 journals @ $ 7 million • TOTAL $22 Million • Est. print copies of ~ 75,000 titles somewhere in the state FDU Libraries

  6. NJ Knowledge Initiative • ~ 10,000 titles in science, technology, medicine, and business • Available at 50 sites around the state • $ 6 Million / year FDU Libraries
