DAY ONE IN LIBRARY

1. This week we will be working on our Leadership Project . You must come prepared all week to the library! • One person from the team must bring a package of 4” x 6” lined index cards to class tomorrow to share with the group. Each member should donate a quarter. You will make several cards. • You must bring the novel you selected, your leadership folder, and any research to the libraryALL WEEK.

2. DAY ONE IN LIBRARY • Your goals today are to meet with your group and accomplish two tasks: First, write each other’s contact information on the handout marked “Leadership Requirements” or in your agendas. Second, complete your “Leadership Plan”. Type this up, and turn it in at the end of the period.

3. DAY TWO-FOUR IN LIBRARY • Your goal today is to begin working on your research. Yesterday, you were assigned a section of the outline (refer to your leadership plan). Today, you will begin gathering information for the outline. • Look specifically at the outline handout and the section(s) you were assigned. Now, begin finding the information and getting it onto your notecards. You will later transfer the information from your notecards onto the outline.

7. NOTECARDS • Each member of the group will do the notecards for the section(s) they have been assigned. Be sure you each individually have 2-3 sources. • When you have finished gathering your research. Type the information into paragraphs in your outline. Then, send your section of the outline to your group leader labeled Roman Numeral I A and B or whatever your section is. Also, send them a separate email labeled Works Cited that includes the MLA citation for the Works Cited page.

8. DAY 5 IN LIBRARY • Today you will type the information from your notecards into your outline! • When you are finished, email your section and your Works Cited entries to the team leader or the person who will be merging all documents. Check with them 5 minutes before the ending of the period to be sure they have received them! • Monday in class, you will have a reading day. Bring your novels. If you are finished reading, be prepared to start writing your reaction paper. (You may also use time in the library for typing your reaction paper if you are ahead of the game).

9. Order of Leaderships • Paradise Lost (any book), John Milton (my favorite author!)- 1667- This is the story of the Fall-of-Man and the conflict between God’s eternal foresight and man’s free will. • Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus Mary Shelley- 1818 (1831)- how far should man go? Can he go too far? This is about the creation of man through science. • Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe-1858- written by Nigerian author Achebe. It deals with a dying African culture. • Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll-1865- the story of Alice who falls down the rabbit hole into a fantasy world • Dracula, Bram Stoker-1897- WHEN JONATHAN HARKER ARRIVES AT CREEPY CASTLE DRACULA IN TRANSYLVANIA, HE HAS NO IDEAWHAT TO EXPECT, BUT ALL TOO SOON HIS HOST'S HORRIBLE NOCTURNAL HABITS... • Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen- 1918-Elizabeth Bennet is the perfect Austen heroine: intelligent, generous, sensible, incapable of jealousy or any other major sin. That makes her sound like an insufferable goody-goody, but the truth is she's a completely hip character, who if provoked is not above skewering her antagonist with a piece of her exceptionally sharp -- but always polite -- 18th century wit. The point is, you spend the whole book absolutely fixated on the critical question: will Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy hook up? • Brave New World, Alduous Huxley-1931- Set in London in AD 2540 the novel deals with developments in reproductive technology and sleep-learning that combine to change society. • Animal Farm, George Orwell-1945-uses animals to depict the Stalin era and World War II • 1984, George Orwell-1949- deals with surveillance and Big Brother • Lord of the Flies, Sir William Golding-1953-what happens when a group of boys are stranded on a desert island? The novel explores human nature.
