Self Confidence • What does it mean?
Thoughts • Thoughts-those mental processes of which a person is always conscious. • This takes place in the outermost part of the brain is called the cortex. • Your thoughts are conscious, you are always aware of them. They help you gather information about yourself and your world and helps you make sense of it. • Your thoughts help decide your actions whether they are positive or negative. • Navy SEAL montra “the only easy day was yesterday” and “it pays to be a winner” • What does that mean to you?
Values • Values- what a person thinks of as right and wrong, what is important to you and rules of behavior. • You learn your first values from your family. • Your values guide you in assigning positive or negative weights to behaviors. • Values are both conscious and unconscious. Sometimes you can state them in words others will guide you actions without thought.
Personal Values • You discover your own values and beliefs by stating your values in either actions or words. • Are you willing to state your values to others? • How faithfully will I stand by my values when it is challenged or acting on your values bring negative consequences? • Do I act consistently and repeatedly in line with my values?
Emotions • Emotions-is a feeling that occurs in response to an event as experienced by an individual. • Some of the emotions we feel are anger, sadness, happiness, envy, prejudice, and confusion. • Emotions you feel are responses to an event that you already had at an earlier time. • It is acceptable to feel emotions and feeling them is natural. Most of us will feel a wide variety of emotions in one day. • It is not always acceptable to act on the emotions. • Emotional intelligence- the ability to recognize and appropriately express one’s emotions in a way to enhance living. • It is more appropriate to wait and relax before you act on the emotions.
Expressing Emotions • Expressing emotions can be done verbally and/or emotionally. • That means you can do something: writing, crying, shouting, laughing, or otherwise act out the emotion in a positive way. • Resentment- anger that has built up due to failure to express it. • Suppress- to hold back or restrain. • Confrontation- an interaction where one person expresses their emotions to another. • Recognize it- What am I feeling? • Own- Accept that you feel it. • Verbalize it- Express it in words to yourself or someone else. • Express it physically- Engage in physical activity to express emotions.
