Global Affairs Committee What are we all trying to accomplish? • UNT graduates, faculty and staff should have: • A better understanding of other cultures and societies • The willingness to learn more about global interdependence • A desire to understand and solve the major human and ecological challenges confronting our planet • A sense of curiosity and acceptance about things foreign and the elimination of myths and fears about other cultures and nations • The ability to cooperate and partner across state, national and cultural boundaries in seeking solutions to world problems • Capacity to work/lead in a multi-cultural, global environment • …more?
What challenges does UNT-I face in achieving goals? • Volatility in the global environment could cause disruption of programs • Faculty/department/colleges interest may not be consistent • Strategic priorities of department/college may not match with the international partners • Bureaucracy and regulations in foreign countries that could delay program development, implementation, or continuation • Cultivation of faculty interest in both study abroad and research programs is critical, but there are many competing priorities • Coordination and communication within UNT-I and between UNT-I and other campus units • Funding for faculty or students to undertake international endeavors • …others?
