The Year to Come… The step up to key stage 4 Presented by Ben Oakes and Megan Smith
Introduction… KS4 – What’s changed? • Everybody deals with Y10 in different ways, and has stresses that are unique to them. • It’s all about effort, and your desire to succeed. • You have to apply yourself , and ask if you don’t understand things.
New Forms, New Faces… Should you worry about new surroundings? • It’s normal to be worried. • We both felt skeptical when moving into our new forms. • But it isn’t the be all and end all. • It gets much, much easier!
Less Subjects, More Work… How to not let coursework stress you out: • It will probably be their first experience of coursework. • It can be stressful, deadlines may all come at once. • Work needs to be put in outside of school hours. • You can only make progress if you want to make progress.
Be Organized… Organization is the key to success, and happiness • Have a clean desk to work on. • Keep track of sheets. • Keep track of your planner, and remember to keep up with revision at a steady, but constant, pace. • Your planner has to be perfect by Sunday night, ready for the next week of school.
The Time Is Now… Start as you mean to go on • The school motto this year is ‘The Time is Now’ • This message is key. • GCSE’s start in year 10, not year 11. • You will get official GCSE controlled assessments throughout year 10. • There isn’t enough time to re-sit everything in year 11.
Personal Experience These are some of the highs and lows of Y10
Thank You If your children, or yourselves, have any further questions, then feel free to ask.
“Here’s what Mr G and Mr M says I should do, Mum and Dad!”: • Getinto a routine • Getmyhome environmentright • Get100%attendance • Getorganised

WE ARE ALL HUMAN! • Think about how we cope when we suffer emotional distress? • If children are happy and healthy and mentally well then their academic success will follow • We have to put our faith in the professionals • We need support too
