  2. PURPOSES • To assist the Board in identifying preferred characteristics of the new superintendent • To guide the consultants in the recruitment and selection of candidates • To guide the Board in the selection of the final candidate

  3. PROCESS • Interviews with Board selected constituents– individuals and groups • Open forums for staff and community • Survey data from staff and community at-large

  4. CAUTIONS • Data does not represent a scientific sampling • Results may not represent the majority opinion of any given group

GREATEST STRENGTHS (survey & focus groups) • The students- “great well-rounded kids” • Ideal size of the school and district • Caring staff members • Expertise of administrators • Parental support of schools • The natural setting and surroundings • Stable community • Comprehensive curriculum- “a place for every student”

Greatest challenges/needs (survey & focus groups) • Reduced staffing levels due to budget cuts • Lack of support for school district budgets • Residual effects of past “illegal acts” • Board tendency to “micromanage” • Lack of stability; too many transitions and interims • Need for expanded K-12 articulation and communication

FEEDBACK ON THE CSA QUESTION • PROS… • Political capital- popular with the public • Savings Note: in the on-line survey, faculty respondents favored combining 16:12 and public respondents favored combining 57:23.
