SOIS AREA: FALL 2005 Meeting Patrick Plancke Area Director CESG Meeting 19 September 2005
SOIS AREA REPORT CONTENTS • CURRENTLY ACTIVE WGs AND BOFs WITHIN AREA • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS OF EACH WG & BOF • CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES • OTHER ISSUE AND CONCERNS • PROPOSED AREA RESOLUTIONS/ACTION ITEMS
SOIS AREA REPORT • LIST OF CURRENT WGs AND BOFs WITHIN AREA • Time Critical On Board Application Services WG • Time Critical On Board Network Services WG • On Board Bus and LAN WG • Plug and Play BOF • Transducer System BOF • Wireless Interfaces BOF
SOIS AREA REPORT • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS • TCOAS WG • Goal: Defines on board applications and applications services that are provided to onboard software applications that isolate the flight software from the underlying hardware details • Working Group Status: Active • Working Group Summary Situation: • Working Group Summary progress: • Issue of ‘Device Access Service’ red book and issue of ‘Time Access Service’ red book ready for review via the CMC • Progress on : Draft red book for the “SOIS File Services” • Device Virtualization • Device Data Pooling • Participation to the AMS
SOIS AREA REPORT • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS • 2. TCONS WG • Goal:Defines services for the transfer of information across a spacecraft onboard network comprising one or more sub-networks, that may be of different types, and with resources and real time constraints • Working Group Status: Active • Working Group Summary Situation: • Working Group Summary progress: • Release of the ‘TCONS Architecture red book’ and of the ‘TCONS quality of services’ White paper available for review within CCSDS. • After discussion with the CSEG, it is agreed that the TCONS architecture book has the merit of introducing the TCONS and OBL services that shall be the object of dedicated red books but is itself more to be classified as a magenta (draft) book . • Problems and Issues: None – working interface with OBL clarified – TCONS work-Load to decrease in 2006 – action moving to OBL
SOIS AREA REPORT • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS • 3. OBL (Bus Lan) WG • Goal: Defines services for the transfer of data over onboard buses and individual onboard LANs that constitute a single sub-net and to transfer octet aligned variable length delimited data unit across the subnetwork e.g. PUS packets, IP datagrams, TCONS datagrams. • Working Group Status: Active • Working Group Summary Situation: • Working Group Summary progress: • Progress on draft Intra-Network Services red book Shall be Ready for area/CCSDS review end of September • On going Work on Test case = Mapping of OBL on SpaceWire Work and mil-std-1553 • Work to be started : mapping on other legacy buses Ethernet, 1394, CAN • - Problems and Issues: None – working interface with TCONS clarified
SOIS AREA REPORT • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS • 4. Plug and Play BOF • Goal:Investigate plug & play aspects relevant for onboard systems and impact on SOIS (management) • BOF Status: Active • Summary Situation: • Work done • Review of existing documentation • Decision Way Forward: Orientation versus a dedicated WG (PnP is • Transversal) Work to be done : Position paper and draft charter to be worked out within next Months (email and teleconfs)
SOIS AREA REPORT • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS • 4. Transducer BOF • Goal:To investigate the application of terrestrial transducer systems concepts, e.g. sensor buses, smart transducers, device enumeration, to spacecraft onboard systems. Main goal is harness reduction and gain into effort and time in the S/C AIT process. • BOF Status: Active • Summary Situation: • Working Group Summary progress: none • Problems and Issues:. Situation to be re-assessed towards the end of this year. Possible synergies with ECSS work on European side but still need some US support
SOIS AREA REPORT • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS • 4. Wireless Interfaces BOF • Goal: To investigate the potential use of wireless technologies in spacecraft onboard systems and interfaces. Impact on SOIS • BOF Status: Active • Summary Situation: • Working Group Summary progress: • Review of existing documentation: Technical notes • Draft position paper and charter available • Problems and Issues: some tuning on resources issues. • US feedback-contact = John Saiz Nasa-JSC • European side OK (related technology RD activities are already planned) • When resource issue is clear, we can request for creation of a Wireless interfaces WG
SOIS AREA REPORT • CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES • A.Interface with MOIMS • OK . MOU to be revisited to take into account progress made on both side. • Interface with SIS • Support to and coordination with AMS, review of TCONS by SIS staff (or co-staff SIS/SOIS)
SOIS AREA REPORT D - Resolutions Resolve to request the CMC for submitting to Agency review: Red Book ‘Device Access Service’ Red Book “Time Access Service’
