PATHOLOGIES-ASSESSMENT-REFURBISHMENT How does it plays the Investigation in the process: Pathology– Assessment- Refurbishment Problem – Research - Intervention Pathology Process - Observation CAUSES PROBLEMS Pathology Study Examination –> Pre-assessment –> Analysis -> Assessment The ANALYSIS considers the following procedure: admisible threshold, Diagnostic Patterns, crack or defect pattern, expert systems, numerical analysis, technical tests,… - Analysis - Assessment The ASSESSMENTshould be attend the causes and the serious of the pathologies…and to include the recommended theraphy (usage limitation, demolition, re-integration, reinforcement,… 1st MEMSCON Event 07/10/10, Bucharest AIDICO

SONIC TESTING • The founded values for the velocities are the following: • - P-wave time of flight -> Tp= 820 us • - P-wave velocity -> Vp = 3040 m/s • S-wave time of flight -> Tp= 1320 us • S-wave velocity -> Vs = 1811 m/s • Since from other parameters as the average concrete apparent density = 2,3 kg/m3, • it has been calculated the elastic modulus and constants: • - Young modulus E -> Ed= 18,5 GPa • - Shear or Rigidity modulus G -> Gd = 7,54 GPa • In these case, it is assumed the final modulus as the half of the dynamic • that comes from the real test (sonic test), therefore it is assigned an elastic modulus • about 10 GPa, so that 9,25 GPa has been adopted. 1st MEMSCON Event 07/10/10, Bucharest AIDICO

CONCLUSIONS 1st MEMSCON Event 07/10/10, Bucharest • Nondestructive technology could be applied to gather information: • To know the mechanical properties of the structural elements, • To supply confident data that comes from the experimental tests to numerical simulation, • To allow comparing experimental behaviour from different techniques (modal tests) • To match the numerical simulation and experimental test (mechanical parameters & boundary conditions). • To perform structural assessment against events.
