Some Assessment Technologies Here are some technologies that could be used as measures of learning, and learning itself: Can Blogs be assessments? Can we do anything to word files except grade them? Wiki’s be assessments? Yes, yes & yes.
Some assessment techniques which support learning (Formative) • Blogs can be responded to and a conversations carried out UNTIL a level of depth or complexity is reached • Text files can undergo a multitude of measures, from word counts, to complexity and depth measures available right in MS Word. • Wiki’s can be used as a running development process, rather than a just graded. • Scratch pad, audio, and video production can provide learners with products they enjoy and own
Technologies as assessments- many combinations (Summative) • Blogs can be graded based on length • Text files can be graded for grammar • Wiki’s can be graded for content breadth • Spoken language can be graded on rubrics of fluency, articulation, accuracy etc.. • Video / audio on aesthetic
This about this class …. • Name some assessments in this class that were FORMATIVE • Name some assessments which were SUMMATIVE Which did you enjoy more?
Standardized Tests, Summative or Formative? The SAT The REGENTS The GRE The TOEFL ….. The bar exam, the national aviators exam, etc… You will be making time choices. How much time should you spend on preparation for these tests?Where do you draw the line?
