What is AVI? • Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) uses wireless Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) communication technology to identify, monitor, track, and collect data on vehicle movements so you can effectively manage Customer parking and a variety of airside and landside vehicle - related activities.
Some Metrics on AVI • Currently more than 70 airports in North America use AVI in single or multiple applications • Over 300,000 transponders • Over 1800 lanes of equipment • The first system deployed was in 1989 • AVI users cover a broad range; LAX to EAG • AVI technology and applications continue to evolve • Low cost “sticker tags” • Mobil technology • Regional interoperability
Sticker Tags Continue to Lower the Cost Bar Lower cost versus traditional “encased” tags • Under $12 in quantity • Enables “disposable” tags • Similar performance to battery powered tags with some range and speed restrictions • Ideal for both ground transportation and parking use • Over 3 million tags and 3000 readers already in use worldwide • Major deployments in Texas and Florida
Dual Credential system • Allows for two AVI transponders to be used in the same vehicle • Fixed transponder ID’s the vehicle • Hand-held transponder ID’s the driver • Vehicle ID • Allows for vehicle-specific tracking and enforcement • Collects company/operator-based data • Driver ID • Driver-based payment system support • Track driver certification/security
Curbside Hand Held Terminal • Runs instance of GTMS application • Wireless comm. to database • WiFi • CDMA • Near real-time verification • Eliminates need for curbside readers when doing automated dispatching
Mobil Operations Terminal • Handled terminal for: • Enforcement- tag reads at remote locations • Mobile access to host software application • Remote enrollment • Communications Options- • Wireless on-line connectivity • Periodic Synchronization with database from cradle • Rugged construction
Regional Interoperability Growth • Leverages a regional Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system protocol for multiple applications • “One tag, many uses” concept: • Toll collection • Airport ground transportation and parking • Institutional and municipal parking • Multi-protocol readers are the enabler • 1st interoperable system deployed at DFW in 1999 • Over 15 airport systems operational or in deployment to-date
