El siglo XX LA POESÍA EN EL SIGLO XX • En los primeros años del siglo XX puede hablarse de una corriente «postsimbolista» que desemboca en una poesía intelectualizada, más atenta a la forma que a los sentimientos. Junto a ella convive la tendencia vanguardista. • Progresivamente, sin embargo, se van diluyendo los límites de movimientos o corrientes. De ahí que resulte muy difícil establecer tendencias definidas. • Un rasgo común a buena parte de las diversas tendencias poéticas del siglo XX es el hermetismo: el lector no debe aspirar a entender el poema, sino a vislumbrar significados múltiples bajo la sugestión estética de las imágenes y palabras. El poema no habla de la realidad directamente, únicamente sugiere.

  9. Unidad 5. Literatura contemporánea. El siglo XX POESÍA ALEMANA • Rainer Maria Rilke. Nacido en Praga, su obra es la expresión más perfecta del ideal de pureza estética surgido con el simbolismo. Vivió en su juventud en Berlín, y de esta época es uno de sus primeros libros de poesía, Libro de horas. • De su segunda etapa, que tiene como eje las artes plásticas, destaca el Libro de las imágenes, en el que persigue el ideal del «poema-cosa» o «poema-pintura». • Tras explorar las relaciones entre el poeta solitario y su entorno en su célebre libro en prosa, Los cuadernos de Malte Laurids Brigge, en 1912 comenzó a escribir los primeros versos de uno de los títulos esenciales de la lírica contemporánea, Elegías de Duino, publicado en 1923. De 1923 es también otro de sus libros más importantes, Sonetos a Orfeo.
