  5. Goal of Youth Alive conference • To train you as an adult or youth facilitator of the Youth Alive program Youth Alive Brief Overview

  6. How can this be done? • Discard any age related barriers • Wear relaxed clothes, smile more, forget the mortgage, overdraft or broken car • Concentrate on being available to these young people as a confidant,friend and true adult facilitator Youth Alive Brief Overview

  7. As an Adventist program • The power needed is to be grounded in the mighty POWER of JESUS CHRIST Youth Alive Brief Overview

  8. The three principles we will stress are: • Honor • Dignity • Respect Youth Alive Brief Overview

  9. Aim of Youth Alive • Substitute the derogatory with a constructive environment • No negativism • Purpose is to build connectedness with one another, using Christian principles • Love • Compassion • Tolerance • Support Youth Alive Brief Overview

  10. Adults succeed most when… • The youth begin to own and manage the program • Program requires adult facilitation • Guidance and relationships with youth leaders strengthens their program Youth Alive Brief Overview

  11. Youth Alive Training Conference • Will operate as if this was the real program • Difference is—need to designate youth as leaders • Program effective only if integrated into regular school, church, or youth society programs Youth Alive Brief Overview

  12. Activities • Principles of honor, dignity and respect are emphasized • The activities should be Fun, Friendship Group based and Focused Youth Alive Brief Overview

  13. Creating a horizontal relationship • Person teaching is concerned with being connected as a friend • Mirrors the vertical relationship that God wants to have with us Youth Alive Brief Overview

  14. Youth of today • Have grown up in broken homes, without role models • They feel alone, alienated and suspicious Youth Alive Brief Overview

  15. Youth Alive initial activities • Facilitate getting to know each other • These activities are inclusive – everyone is involved Youth Alive Brief Overview

  16. Cooperative games • Mix participants up so that cliques and subgroups are opened up • The games are lighthearted, non-threatening and stress breaking • Usually takes a forty-eight to seventy-two hour interaction to break down barriers Youth Alive Brief Overview

  17. Avoid exclusionary discussions • Such as those that may surround doctrinal argument Youth Alive Brief Overview

  18. As Christians • We do not hesitate to call on help from Jesus nor to use prayer and seek Divine aid Youth Alive Brief Overview

  19. Ultimate purpose • To bring us all to the cross • Establish the vertical relationship between ourselves and our God, and establish the horizontal relationship with one another • All are equal at the foot of the cross Youth Alive Brief Overview
