  2. "Facing Up" Leverages the Power of Peer Support and Adult Learning Patterns to Maximize Outcomes! Peer Support: Transformative outcomes can be greatly enhanced when the person is inspired, encouraged and empowered by a person who has also “been there!” Adult Learning Patterns: When instruction is designed to accommodate how adults learn and retain information, then learning transfer and outcomes will be maximized!

Adult Retention Rates ZZZz Adults retain: 10 % of what they learn through a lecture 20 % of what they learn through reading 30 % of what they learn through audio visual presentations 40 % of what they learn through demonstration 50 % of what they learn through discussion 70 % of what they learn through practice by doing 90 % of what they learn through immediate use of learning and teaching others Based on research by the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD)

  4. Regarding that last retention rate.... Adults will retain 90 % of what they learn through immediate use of learning and teaching others The graduates of the seven week Facing Up course will be encouraged and prepared to co-facilitate the next seven-week Facing Up course!

Facing Up Learning Objectives & Outcomes Building good relationship skills, including boundary setting and conflict resolution skills Gaining personal expertise in nutrition, including key knowledge about calories, sugars and fats Gaining some basic practice and skill in reading food labels and planning a healthy diet

  8. Facing Up Workshop Schedule The overall length of the workshop is seven weeks. The workshop consists of two three-hour classroom sessions each week and one three-hour special physical / learning activity each week. One popular course schedule is Mon, Wed and Fri. The Facilitator workshop is one week.

  9. Facing Up Instructional Design The Facing Up workshop is highly interactive, fun and skill oriented. The instructional layout is centered on adult learning principles, maximizing adult retention rates. The instructional components include power points, video clips, music, edu-dramas and scheduled physical activities

Proposed Plan for Instructional Delivery I would certify Peer Support Specialists as facilitators in a one-week facilitator certification workshop so they can then facilitate the seven-week Facing Up workshops. Based upon our agreement with ROC, their facilitator agreements will be tied to their given agency.

Provides certification training for peers.
