  2. Education Law, no.84 from 24thJuly 1995, still active, stipulates that: • In Romania, the education is a national priority.

  3. THE STRATEGICAL OBJECTIVE OF THE ROMANIAN EDUCATION • Accomplishing the educational ideal • Which consists of: • -free, integral and harmonious development of human individuality; • -making the independent and creative personality.

  4. THE EDUCATIONAL IDEAL • Is based on: -humanist traditions-democracy values-the aspirations of the Romanian society • Contributes to the preservation of the national identity.

  5. THE MISSION OF THE ROMANIAN EDUCATION Forming the human personality by: • Getting the scientific knowledge and the values of national and universal culture; • Forming the intellectual capacities, the affective disponibilities and the practical abilities by achieving humanist, scientific, technical and esthetical knowledge; c) Achieving the intellectual work techniques necessary for life- long instruction and self instruction.

  6. Compulsory education The structure of the educational system

  7. Pre- school education • Lower level • Medium level • High/ preparatory level- just before starting school In Romania, children between 3-6/7 years old (optionally) attend pre school education which has 3 levels of study, out of which the last one is preparatory for school education.

General compulsory education • Primary school education (1st to 4th grades) • Lower secondary education (5th to 8th grades) • Lower highschool education (9th to 10th grades) Primary cycle (6/7-10/11 years old) is followed by the Gymnasium cycle (10/11-14/15 years old) at the end of which the students may choose either highschool education or vocational schools.

  9. Higher secondary education • Highschool (11th – 12th/ 13th grades) • Vocational schools Highschool (4-5 years), or vocational schools (professional education, 2-3 years). The students‘ selection and distribution on the 2 categories after graduating the gymnasium education is done according to the evaluation of their competences aquired during the gymnasium education, which is based on the national standards of evaluation.

The admission to highschool education The computerized distribution on a national level is based on: • Students’ options • The admission average grade calculated according to the following formula: 50% the average grade of the 5th- 8th grades 50% the average of the unique national tests passed in the 7th and 8th grades

Highschool education: • Theoretical category: • Humanist Profile; • Real profile (based on exact sciences); • Technological category: • Technical profile; • Services profile; • Exploitation of natural resources and environment protection profile; • Vocational category: • Military profile; • Theological profile; • Sport profile; • Artistic profile; • Pedagogical profile.

Professional education • In vocational schools we have an education for professionalization, in order to prepare students for the first level of qualification on occupational domains • The graduates of the complementary year whogive and pass the exam of professional competences certification get a certificate of level 2 professional qualification. • The graduates of the complementary year who have a level 2 professional qualification certificate and a graduation certificate can go on with their studies in the superior highschool level.

TECHNICAL HIGHSCHOOLTheory- practice interchange 9th and 10th grades 35 school weeks, without practice 11th grade 37 school weeks out of which 4 weeks of practice + 33 weeks with 4 days of theory + 1 day of practice 12th grade 36 school weeks out of which: 4 weeks of practice + 32 weeks with 4 days of theory + 1 day of practice

VOCATIONAL SCHOOLTheory- practice interchange 9th and 10th grades 36 school weeks out of which: • 4 weeks of practice in the 9th grade • 6 weeks of practice in the 10th grade + 2 days/ week during school weeks 11th grade 37school weeks out of which: 8 weeks of practice+ 1 day/ week during school weeks 12th and 13th grades progressive route- similar to 11th and 12th grades of technological highschool

  17. The proportion between the number of classes of technical knowledge and those of general knowledge is: -For 9th and 10th grades8 / 25 - For 11th and 12th grades 16 / 16

  20. Finishing the highschool education • Baccalaureate exam • - written, oral and practical examinations - compulsory subjects - subjects chosen by the candidate according to the profile

  21. Tertiary non- university education • Tertiary non- university school • Masters school The obtained level of qualification is LEVEL 3 advanced.

  22. Higher education • State higher educational institutions • Approved private higher educational institutions • Private higher educational institutions authorized to temporarily function

  23. The admission to the higher education • Is based on: - general results obtained during highschool, - results at some subjects - results obtained at the Baccalaureate exam - admission examination • The universities establish their own admission criteria according to the university autonomy

Certificate • After graduating the 10 grades of compulsory education at highscool category the students receive: • A CERTIFICATE OF GRADUATION OF THE LOWER HIGHSCHOOL CYCLE • Which specifies the specific competences obtained by the student • The graduates of the higher highschool cycle who pass the professional competences certificate exam get: • A CERTIFICATE OF PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION- LEVEL 3 • OR • A PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCES CERTIFICATE • The graduates of the higher cycle who pass the Baccalaureate exam get: • A BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA • Which allows them to continue their studies at a higher level of education- university.
