C-17 Program Status • Congress may consider funding C-17s in the FY09 Defense Supplemental Bill • Congress authorized $2.1B for 6 additional C-17s in FY09 Defense Authorization Bill • HAC-D marked for $2.2B to fund 8 additional C-17s in FY09 Defense Supplemental Bill • Awaiting SAC-D mark and final appropriation for C-17s in FY 09 Defense Supplemental Bill • DoD’s on-going mobility studies will not complete until late 2009 • International orders promising but not possible absent stable USAF production • SECDEF Gates released details of FY10 budget request – “We have enough C-17s with the 205 already in the force and currently in production” – recommended terminating C-17 production • Boeing embracing lean initiatives and further cost reductions to keep C-17 affordable • Based on strong bipartisan support for additional C-17s, Boeing and its key suppliers continue to spend company resources to protect USAF’s option for cost-effective C-17 production in the future Without funding for procurement of additional C-17s in FY09, the C-17 supplier base will begin to shutdown this year and production will end in 2011
