What is Career Cruising? • Career Cruising is a web-based career exploration and planning tool that your student uses to explore career and college options and create a comprehensive career portfolio. Features of the program include:
Career Cruising • Interest and Skills Assessments – Career Matchmaker is based on one of the most well-respected assessment tools in the world • Explore Careers – direct links between careers and high school subjects, as well as links between careers and college programs
Career Cruising • Multimedia Interviews – interviews with real people in each occupation add depth and realism to career profiles • College and Financial Aid Information – updated yearly from the Peterson’s database, with different search tools to help students find the right college and the right scholarships
Career Cruising • Electronic Career Portfolio – available online, so that parents can see how their children are putting together their educational plans • Resume Builder – integrated with the portfolio to help students format and print out professional-looking resumes quickly and easily

Electronic Portfolio • This is the most important aspect of this presentation. Every LCTI student needs to create and maintain an electronic portfolio.
Demonstration of electronic portfolio creation . . . . • What is a Career Portfolio? • Think of your students’ career portfolios as their own online filing cabinet. In it, they can keep all the information they need to plan their education and career path.
What can you do with a Career Portfolio? • Save your Career Matchmaker Results • Keep notes on the careers and schools that interest you • Develop an education plan based on your career interests • Track your career preparation and planning activities • Record your career and life goals • List your extra-curricular activities and work experiences • Create a great looking resume
Accessing Career Cruising • www.careercruising.com • Username: lcti • Password: careers • Click Start Cruising
The first step: • From the Main screen, click on the blue PORTFOLIO button in the top menu bar. portfolio
Create Portfolio • Click on the grey NEW PORTFOLIO button to create a new portfolio. Enter your information and then select your own Portfolio Username and Password, so that only you can get into your portfolio. Write down your Portfolio Username and Password in a safe place in case you forget them. Click on CREATE PORTFOLIO.
Step 2: • On the Quick Links menu, select ‘Update Your Personal Profile’. You don't need to fill out this section right now. But if you want this information to appear in a resume, you will have to fill it out here first. • It is also a good idea to fill in your email address, so that Career Cruising can email you your portfolio username and password if you ever forget them.
Portfolio Steps • Continue to work your way through each tab until you have completed your portfolio.
Resume Builder • Continue to work your way through each tab until you have completed your resume and save it to your portfolio. • It is very important that each student create and update their resume as they will be used for the SkillsUSA competitions.
Matchmaker Survey • Enter your first and last name and start a new session. • Complete the 39 question survey. • Then save the results to your portfolio.
Careers • Feel free to explore the Careers section of the site and save any information to your portfolio. • This is a very useful section to help students identify career objectives. • It is also very helpful in identifying all aspects and opportunities within your lab.
Career Cruising • We recommend your students utilize the same username system presently used at LCTI. Year of graduation with student ID number and their own password. • Electronic portfolios remain active for the life of the company.
