Social Environment, Aesthetics and Valuing • Social Environment - The ability to distinguish the social aspects of contemporary life and to analyze the function of individual and personal elements within a social framework. • Aesthetics - The ability to understand art forms and the creative dimensions of human behavior for both personal enrichment and application in the profession. • Valuing - The ability to clarify and act upon personal and social values. Communication, Effective Thinking & Natural Environment • Communication is the ability to send and receive information in numerous forms and contexts for a variety of purposes. • Effective Thinking is the ability to analyze and solve problems and to demonstrate command of rational discourse. • Natural Environment is the ability to understand the impact of science and technology on physical systems and to distinguish between sound and unsound environmental policies. Business DivisionMission Statement • Our mission is to provide a quality, contemporary education to students seeking careers in enterprises requiring skills attained through competency-based education. Our curriculum is developed and delivered by following the Benedictine education philosophy adopted by the University and using the efforts of the community, students, scholars and other professionals. The students are further prepared to take their place in their organization and in their community by developing an understanding of and an appreciation for the value of the servant leader philosophy as presented by the University of Mary. Accounting DepartmentMission Statement • The mission of the University of Mary Accounting Department is to further excellence in the accounting profession by preparing ethical, competent graduates with the knowledge and skill base necessary to enter a variety of careers, pursue graduate work, or attain professional certification.
