  1. Project: FOUNDATION PLAN Image from Project • Background: In an attempt to cut cost a crawlspace foundation plan was researched and compared to the existing slab foundation planed for the Woodruff II home. • Objectives: • Establish Initial And Maintenance Cost Of Both Slab And Crawlspace Foundations. • Determine Optimal Foundation Regardless Of Price. • Apply Criteria And Select A Foundation Plan. • Findings/Solutions: • Crawlspace Foundations Will Require More Maintenance. • Slab Foundation Maintenance Is Costly. • Based On Initial Cost And Projected Maintenance The Slab Foundation Is The Best Option. • Slabs are better suited for sloped lots. • Slabs Can Be Insulated !! (kcmaster.com) Image from Project Benefits: HEALTH: Reduces Mold SUSTAINABILITY: Virtually No Maintenance COST: Very Cheap Concrete DURABILITY: Very Durable

  2. Cost Comparison Concrete Slab Crawlspace 75% rebate On lumber purchased at Lowes results in an estimated $800 for lumber alone. Total cost estimate of $1500 for all materials Depending on height and yard slope. • Concrete is approximately $60 per Cubic Yard. • $900 for 15 yards of concrete considering the footer height. • All things considered expect roughly $1600.

  3. Considerations • Additional Slab Supports. • foundationsupportworks.com • These supports are much deeper than the fill soil and therefore prevent cracking do to settlement of the top layers of ground under the slab. • Since the yard is sloped, the slab foundation is the ideal choice but proper soil preparations will be needed to prevent unwanted shifting.

  4. Conclusion • The slab foundation is the ideal choice for this build considering the terrain and the low cost of concrete. However, a crawlspace foundation is a viable option for future builds built on level lots and proper run off control. • Questions?
