Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia Common challenges • Scientific level: • Develop missing methods for monitoring, coordinated on A&I level (underwater noise, marine litter, habitats, physical damage and loss, biodiversity and other open issues and descriptors) • Investigate linkages among status, impacts, pressures and human activities ->sectors • Identify sensitive areas and areas important for protection of biodiversity (coastal + open seas), • Improve knowledge on marine ecosystems services, link between human wellbeing and good status of waters, go beyond sectoral approach (bias in decision making and priorities); • Data bases • Collect existing data and organize common (regional) database for data on status, impacts, pressures and human activities; • Inventory of human activities and related pressures on sub-region; • Improve geographical coverage of data available for assessments (extended monitoring);
