What is Augmented Reality? Augmentedreality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are augmented by virtual computer –generated imagery. PC Magazine a virtual reality that combines real and virtual images in real-time
Augmented Reality is related to all of the technologies projected to be in greater use in the next five years, including digital books, mobile devices, game-based learning and gesture-based learning. Karen Hamilton
Two types of AR 1. Mobile devices that have Global Positioning System (GPS) To know its position and direction, device overlays the image using this positioning information. PLAY
2. Desktops and Laptops. Often shows 3D virtual models which the user can move about to turn the objects, whereas the GPS variety usually shows images in a 2D plane. Two types of AR
With underlying software system, the camera connects to our software on a PC sending lights When it detects the square marker (AR marker) the software reads the marker like a bar code With a corresponding 3D model hover the position of the marker and lasty display the model exactly the same position as the marker. How Mixed of AR works? PLAY
Ways in which AR will effect teaching and learning • AR can be used for visual and highly-interactive forms of learning. • AR can respond to user input, creating an interactive learning environment, even with objects and places too big or cumbersome to work with in a real environment.
Ways in which AR will effect teaching and learning • With mobile devices playing a big part in AR, learning becomes ubiquitous and just-in-time.
Benefits to student learning. • Users can see and touch real manuscripts while having the security of interactive guided support, allowing users to work at their own pace. • AR promotes ‘active’ teaching, maximizing the opportunity for interaction, encouraging critical response and the adoption of new perspectives and positions.
Benefits to student learning. Learners will remember and retain the majority of the information presented to them. Abstract concepts or ideas that might be difficult for students to comprehend can be presented through an enhanced learning
