3 Beliefs Of a Singaporean Perspective success
Belief#1 knowledge is measured by good grades
Singapore I’m from
we haveworld-class education
LIKE MANY OTHER COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD..... we are mostly measured by grades
we choose either polytechnic or junior college at tertiary level
grading system vs gpa grading a levels
teaching approach vs pragmatic (preparing for the workforce) academic (preparing for further education)
university admission 10%-15% estimate* vs 60%-80% estimate* (with tons trying to get in)
examination approach = academic academic
NOT HOW WELL.. YOU DRAW YOU SPEAK YOU PROGRAM YOU WRITE YOU APPLY THEORY TO LIFE
but how well.. You Memorize & REGURGITATE
is this culture what we want?
45 percent during their first two years in college. showed no improvement in critical thinking, complex reasoning or written communication Source: Academically Adrift (based on u.s students)
what are we really GOING FOR?
Ask not.. what do i want to do
Ask... WHO what do i want to do BE
knowledge is measured by good grades Wisdom
Belief#2 uniform everything is
