CONJUGATION OF VERBS • “ To CONJUGATE” means “to CHANGE” • Each verb in Spanish changes form (conjugates) to correspond to different subject pronouns. • In other words, each verb has 6 different forms in each tense. • So, it is very important that you learn the subject pronouns in “conjugation chart” order.
CONJUGATION OF VERBS • All verb infinitives end in -ar, -er, or -ir • The verbs in each of these ending categories have different conjugation patterns. • Most verbs are regular. Once you learn the endings in the pattern, you can conjugate any regular verb in that category. • Some very important verbs are irregular. You must memorize the conjugation of these verbs because it does not follow a pattern.
CONJUGATION OF VERBS • Some common irregular verbs that you will memorize right away are: • SER - to be • ESTAR - to be (but not the same as ser!) • TENER - to have (-go verb) then (e<ie) • QUERER - to want (e<ie)
