Mechanical Typewriter (1867-1872) • The “manual” or “mechanical” typewriter had reached a somewhat standardized design. A mechanical or electromechanical machine for writing in characters similar to those produced by printer’s type by means of keyboard operated types striking a ribbon to transfer ink or carbon impressions onto the paper. The inventor was Christopher Latham Sholes.
Television (1950-1951) • The television was invented by Philo Taylor Farnsworth. Teachers could use TV in their classroom and for lessons.
Overhead Projector ( 1958) • Overhead projectors facilitates and easy low cost interactive environment for educators. Teaching materials can be pre-printed and use repetitively, rather that having written before each class. It’s a variant slide projector that is used to display images to an audience. • Overhead projector was invented by Roger Appledorn
Calculator (1972) • The first commercial calculator was created the TI-2500. The calculator was invented by French Blaise Pascal. He did this to help his dad who was a tax adjuster. Then Gottfried Leibnitz improved on Pascal idea with a machine that would add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Floppy Disk (1975) • Floppy disks allowed teachers and students to transfer electronic files form one computer to another.
Computers (1977) • Apple introduces computer. Although it was not until 1990 were they put in schools
World Wide Web Begins (1989) • The World Wide Web begins
Smart boards(1991) • The first smart board was created although not common in school classrooms till recent years
The Webs first Blogs and Wikis (1998) • We begin to see the first blogs and wikis to ever be created
Flash Drives (2001) • The first flash drives were created and used. Students could save and retrieve information easily.
I-phone/I-pad (2007-2010) • Apple has created the I-phone/I-pad allowing easy access to I-pod, web, and all different applications
