Presentation of recent developments in disaster risk reduction in Poland What has been done in Poland since our last meeting in Cracow? • On 14th of June 2007 hydro-meteorological service in branch office of IMGW in Cracow organized „The avalanche seminar” – civil safety in the mountains Main inputs: -new activities of IMGW, -discussion on hydro-meteorological conditions and snow cover conditions in winter season 2006/2007, -discussion on avalanches occured in winter season 2006/2007 -discussion on the new Council of the Minsters order regarding safty conditions in the mountains, - organization of the avalanche service in IMGW.

XII Dam Monitoring International Conference on 19 - 22 June 2007 • HAZARD AND DAMS SAFETY IN POLAND • present dams safety regulations and necessary modifications • observations and investigations • evaluations of dam technical state and safety • hazard behind of small water reservoirs • creating of the computer-based special information system for hydrotechnical structures • PROBLEMS OF THE FLOOD PROTECTION • small water retention and the flood protection • technical state and safety of embankments in Poland • functioning of water reservoirs and hydrotechnical structures during flood time • warning systems (cooperation with the local authority and crisis teams etc.) • possibility increase of the hazard of the environmental contamination in domestic range and safety activities)

Workshop „ Community prepardness and public participation for flash flood management in Europe” organized on 29-30 of October in Cracow This workshop was organized by WMO and Global Water Partnership for Central and East Europe It was summary of activities within the Associated Programme of Flash Flood Management adminstered by WMO (50 participants from Japan, Switzerland, France, and Poland, director of hydrological and water resources department-Avinash Tyagi and chief of the project Joachin Saalmueller, polish officials).
