AWARENESS TO CAREER PATH T.MOHAN CHANDRAN YEDAKADU - NILGIRIS AVIATION CONSULTANT & ADVISER
NEED OF THE HOUR - GREAT INITIATIVE • Nelikolu Charitable Trust • INTIATIVE TO BRING IN INDUSTRY EXPERIENCED PERSONNEL INTERACTION WITH STUDENTS & PARENTS : • A THOUGHTFUL INITIATIVE • NEED OF THE HOUR • MISSING IN OUR SYSTEM • PROACTIVE INPUT • OBJECTIVELY – RIGHT DIRECTION & PROPER GUIDANCE THE GREAT INITIATIVE BY Nelikolu Charitable Trust
NEED OF THE HOUR FEEL PROUD OF YOUR PARENTS & GAURDIANS “ ONLY 16% OF CHILDREN GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO ENTER IN TO / PROCEED COLLEGE STUDIES IN INDIA ” • YOU ARE ONE AMONG THEM • FEEL PROUD OF YOU & YOUR PARENTS /GAURDIANS • YOU ARE HERE BECAUSE OF THEM • YOUR CAREER PLAN DEPEND ON THEM
NEED OF THE HOUR - EARLY REALISATION • There used to be one bright and intelligent student ( Mr AYYASAMY) in my class ( up to 4th Standard). His hand writing was like block print and was appreciated by everyone including teachers and was nominated as class leader throughout. When, we moved to class V, he stopped coming to School and was informed that his parents are poor (Labour class) and he started going as labour along with his parents to support them for livelihood. The same person still working as field labour in our village with the same house owners for past 40 years. After recognizing his dedication in work and holding soft corner in my heart, In 2015, I approached him to join my house to take care our garden and also to support him for kids education , but he simply replied that I can’t shift as I am happy with the pattern of life and owner family. • THIS MADE ME TO REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF ECONOMICS/WEALTH IN ONES LIFE TO EXPLORE YOUR OWN INBORN TALENT. I USED TO ADMIRE HIS DEDICATION AND INTEGRITY NATURE EVERY NOW AND FOLLOW TO PRACTICE THE SAME IN MY LIFE PROCESS.
NEED OF THE HOUR - EARLY REALISATION • While I was signing with concentration (Not to make mistake) for Elementary School Leaving Certificate in front of the School teacher “ AMMA” commented that your signature is very Good and keep it up and study well , you will become big personality one day. • I WAS PROUD AND REALIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF FOCUS TO ACHIEVE ANYTHING IN LIFE PROCESS. NEVER GAVE UP FOCUS IN ANY WORK THAT I HAVE UNDERTAKEN. ( 1975).
NEED OF THE HOUR PARENTS SHOULD MAKE THEIR CHILDREN FOCUS ON • Realization of family & Money Value: • (Aware of family situations, how parents have earning/earned money, Difficulties in making wealth and how long it took them to reach this present level) • Learn to Earn (Time / Energy /Money) : • In the early stage ( Good name, appreciation for good work/nature/character/time management, money (through Saving / sports / Competition / Merit Scholarship / undertaking or supporting /Performing small work/ Skill)
NEED OF THE HOUR - GOOD ASSOCIATION Beautiful explanation by Swami Vivekananda -MEANING OF ASSOCIATION • A rain drop from the sky: • if it is caught by clean hands, is pure enough for drinking. • If it falls in the gutter, its value drops so much that it can’t be used even for washing your feet. • If it falls on a hot surface, it will evaporate... • If it falls on a lotus leaf, it shines like a pearl and finally, • If it falls on an oyster, it becomes a pearl... • The drop is the same, but its existence & worth depends on whom it is associated with.”... • Always be associated with people who are good at heart..You will experience your own inner transformation"...
1. PEER DISCOURAGEMENT • WHY ARE STUDYING HARD, ANYWAY YOU ARE NOT GETTING JOB • 1983 – WHEN I WAS STUDYING , I HEARD THE SAME COMMENTS. • IS IT TRUE? • DEFINITELY NOT.
2. STANDARD DILUTIONFOCUS ON EDUCATION “ The future of this country depends on improving our higher education systems and creating a platform for the exchange of views” (NR NARAYANA MOORTHY – Infosys Co-founder-At Global Business Summit 2015)
INSPIRATION THOUGTH • EDUCATION NEEDS INSPIRATION, NOT JUST INFORMATION ONLY • AN INSPIRED HUMAN BEING CAN TRANSFORM HIS LIFE AND LIVES AROUND HIM
NEED OF THE HOUR - EARLY REALISATION • I have studied in Tamil Medium till 10th Standard and opted English medium for Higher Secondary ( H.Sc – 10 + 2) in the Govt Higher Secondary School, Yedakadu. I was finding difficult to understand and learn subjects due medium issue, whereas, the Botany teacher ( Shri K.Lakshmanan) was young , Smart and was very fluent in language and used to enter the class without text book and teaches the lesson and at the end he dictates notes of the day without hesitation and reference of book. This really attracted me and made me to think many times that how one can struggle and other can practice with ease.
NEED OF THE HOUR - EARLY REALISATION • I approached English teacher (Shri. S.VijayaRangan) for special classes after the School hours to learn English language to become like Botany Teacher way to teach and dictate without any reference material. (1981-82). • THE EARLY EXPOSURE TO TAP DIFFULT ONE AND REALIZATION HELPED ME TO FOCUS AND PRACTICE THROUGHOUT MY CAREER ON THE SAME PATH. • AFTER COMPLETION OF MY M.E (AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING) AND DURING MY PH.D IN IIT MADRAS, I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY AND OFFER TO TEACH IN THE SAME NATIVE SCHOOL (PHYSICS & MATEMETICS) FOR 10 + 2 STUDENTS AND ACCEPTED IT AND PRACTISED SAME PATTERN OF TEACHING AND NOTES DURING MY VACATION (1991 TO 1994).
3. CRITICAL CHALLENGE EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT • Struggling for Knowledge Based study: • Knowledge : A person’s range of information; familiarity gained by experience or repetition; understanding. • Skill : Ability to apply gained knowledge for use. • Competency:The combination of knowledge, skills and attitude to perform a task to the required standards in accordance with the State regulatory requirements. • Attitude:Attitude is understood as behaviors that are acceptable or not in a given context. A PROFESSIONAL’S LESSON • EDUCATION IS A “ MAGIC TOOL” FOR A CAREER… • HOW ONE “APPLIES IT” WILL BRING THE DIFFERECE
4. CRITICAL CHALLENGE - HAPPINESS STATUS • The world celebrated Happiness Day on 20th March. • We were informed by the United Nations that India is one of the least happy nations on the planet. • We rank 122 out of 155 countries. This is not story of economic growth alone. • UN saying one step further that • it is unemployment and poor quality of jobs that truly makes people unhappy
5. CRITICAL CHALLENGE MORE OPTIONS OPTION CREATES CONFUSION • NUMBER OF INPUTS • (GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT) images
PHOBIA • SOCIAL ATTRACTION • BOREDOM • PEER PRESSURE • COMPARISON • UNDER UTILIZATION OF PRECIOUS ENERGY & TIME • HUMAN POTENTIAL IS ON DECLINE 6. CRITICAL CHALLENGE MIS-USE OF HUMAN POTENTIAL
NEW GENERATION MINDSET “STAY CONNECTED” • MOST DANGEROUS SYNDROME • TAKES AWAY YOUR PRECIOUS TIME & ENERGY
ASPIRATION – REALITY MISMATCH (UN report -2013) • Most youngsters in urban India place a high premium on education and believe that it opens windows of opportunity in life, but end up with low-paid jobs in the informal sector. • This skill gap is one of the biggest problems plaguing the country’s youth, says a new report.
ASPIRATION – REALITY MISMATCH (UN report -2013) • “The availability of employment and access to services is not commensurate to the number of people demanding them. • Young people are advocated to pursue education towards white-collar jobs, but a large portion of real job creation is in the informal sector. • The youth are neither prepared for it, nor consider it aspirational,” and the “aspiration-reality mismatch” needs to be addressed.

ENGINEERING DEGREE COURSES & OPPORTUNITIES images
ENGINEERING DEGREE COURSES & OPPORTUNITIES • The rapid growth in the number of engineering colleges can be attributed to an ecosystem built around feeding the $110 billion outsourcing market and the huge demand for the engineers in the IT sector in India itself • There is a huge gap between the enrolment and the placement. More than 60% of the 8 lakh engineers graduating from technical institutions across the country every year remain unemployed, according to AICTE • Sadly, however the demand for IT related jobs in India fell sharply due to nonlinear growth models of IT companies and a lesser number of manpower required to handle the same jobs as before due to higher degree of automation • A study in 2014 found that there is a large mismatch in the aspirations of graduating engineers and their job readiness. 97% engineers aspire for a job in IT and core engineering. However, only 18.43% employable in IT and 7.49% in core engineering. • There are also those who aren’t able to cope up with the high-pressure in IT and then resort to government jobs which have become more competitive than ever.
ENGINEERING DEGREE COURSES & OPPORTUNITIES Tamil Nadu continues to lurk in the bottom 25 percentile bin, given the sheer number of engineering colleges. (Soft Engineer – IT Services Role Table 8: States categorized in 25 percentile bins basis employability in Software Engineer ‐ IT Services role

ENGINEERING DEGREE COURSES & OPPORTUNITIES • There is an evident difference between the percentage of students found employable across the tiers of colleges. • A difference of about 8% is observed in the employability percentage of tier 1 and tier 2 colleges. • The employability gap increases furthermore when tier 1 colleges are compared with tier 3 colleges. A similar trend is observed for percentage of students employed across the tiers of colleges.
