Water Purification for Your Garden • Water filters for your plants? • The typical customer? • Current filtration technologies • Problem water • FAQ
WHY USE FILTERED WATER? • Pure base = Ideal feed formula that gives plants exactly what they want • Increased nutrient uptake and less chance of lockout and deficiencies. Less nutrient and salt build up • Remove minerals = Stabilize PH • Removing unknown contaminants and toxins from plant tissue and fruits….. lead, mercury, pharmaceuticals, bacteria, etc. • Organic growers, beneficial micro-organisms, higher quality and larger harvests.
2 Types of Customers • Those that need a water filter • Those that want a water filter
* • Benzene - gasoline or oil spills on the ground surface or from leaking underground fuel tanks. • Dichloromethane - industrial solvent • Trichloroethylene - used in septic system cleaners • Tetrachloroethylene - dry-cleaning industry.
Reverse Osmosis • Removes 94-99% of PPM • Produces the purest water • Slow flow rates – 4 to 30 GPH • 3:1 drain to product ratio – why???? • Flow rate dependent on pressure, temp., and PPM • - Rated at 60 psi (4 bar), 500ppm TDS municipal water, 77°F (25°C) - • Higher start up and maintenance costs
De-Chlorinators • Fast flow rates – 1 to 8 GPM • No drain water • Pressure not as important • Inexpensive maintenance • Low start up costs • Main disadvantage = minimal lowering of PPM
Problem Water • More than 10 grains or 170 PPM Hardness • Excessive Iron or Hydrogen Sulphide (sulfur) • Silica, brackish water, boron, arsenic • Bacteria, Viruses, Cysts
FAQ – Reverse Osmosis • Q. Low flow from Reverse Osmosis • Low line pressure, high PPM, improper setup, knowledge of RO • Q. Good flow at first and then a trickle • Excessive minerals (hardness), iron, sulfur, high PPM, not changing pre-filters • Q. Good flow at first and then increased flow and high PPM • Did not change carbon pre-filter when needed. City water users must change carbon pre-filter every 1,500 gallons of product water • Q. Well water vs. city water • Well water needs KDF85 or other pre-filtration like softener, city water needs carbon or KDF85. Water test important • Q. Waste to product water ratio • A. 3:1 but depends on pressure, etc. • Q. Check PPM of product water to change pre-filters • A. incorrect. Pre-filters do NOT remove PPM, only membrane does
SELLING POINTS • Plant Problems? Lockout? Deficiencies? • DO NOT offer band aids. Must start with pure base! • Increase in quality and quantity of harvests • Essential for organic growers and health conscious gardeners • Anyone who has used purified water will NEVER go back to tap
