  2. Before the invention of television, radio was the most popular and well-known form of entertainment to Australians in the 1950s. It was so famous that 97 percent of Australian homes had a radio set. By using it, they could enjoy listening to music shows, quiz shows, some entertainment, and so on. Entertainment • During the 1950s, many British and American movies were screened in Australian cinemas. The number of foreign movies was actually more than the number of Australian produced movies in the cinemas.

  3. Many people especially the younger generation spent their pastime playing sports as their entertainment. In the case of men, they usually played active and rough sports such as soccer, rugby, surfing ,and other sports. In the case of women, they played tennis, swam and so on. Entertainment • In the 1950s, television was the most famous form of entertainment for Australians. At that time, almost 70 percent of Australian families had a television set and televisions were available in the every city to use. People could watch many various programmes on television, for example, news, dramas, movies, quiz programmes, and so on.

  4. Hollywood stars like Marilyn Munro and Grace Kelly, greatly influenced fashion for many Australian women. Lots of the Australians followed the stars’ clothing styles. The Australians loved a slim line and tiny waistline with full skirts and small, round, and flat hats. Fashion • Fashion for men in the 1950s was quite simple and plain. Their fashion was generally plain fabric with some colours like brown, blue, and grey.

  5. In the late 1950s, ‘Teddy Boy’ style from Britain and Elvis Presley’s clothing style were very voguish styles among many young men. The clothing style of Elvis Presley was leather bike jackets, tight trousers, white socks, and black rubber shoes. The ‘Teddy Boy’ style was narrow trousers, narrow ties, and pointed shoes.
