ELA 8 Sept. 17, 2013Objective: Understand Block vs. Alternating Format when writing a Claim Paragraph • Bell Ringer: • On your piece of lined paper from yesterday, write down the date & today’s objective. • Prompt: Write a sentence in third person using the word “internal.” • Pronoun Review • SOW Practice • Block vs. Alternating Format • RDW #1: Use your GCS organizer & RDW from last week to write a revised paper using BLOCK Format • Requirements: • 1. Write Requirements & 1 full page • 2. Block format (evidence-blue & commentary – yellow) • 3. Write in 3rd person & highlight pronouns Attendance Reminder!!!

SOW Practice Directions: using the five rules from your S.O.W. notes for writing claims, revise the poorly written claims below Example: • You should always eat healthy. • Eating healthily most of the time should be balanced with an occasional “not-so-healthy” treat to avoid junk-food-bingeing. Do these as a class: • Diets are always temporary. • You should vote. • Parents are responsible for raising a child.
