In 2003, Kersley Elementary School accomplished 100 environmental activities and was designated a Green School by the SEEDS Foundation.
In 2006, we accomplished 150 different environmental initiatives and were designated a Jade School by the SEEDS Foundation.
Every time we accomplished an environmental activity we announced it on the intercom for the entire school to hear. We tracked our accomplishments in our Jade School Book.
We wrote letters to all the businesses in Quesnel that operate drive-throughs. We asked them to look at the environmental impact of drive-throughs.
We have signs, posters, reminders, recycling containers, helpful hints… everywhere

We wrote letters to bring attention to idling. We claimed our school an idle free zone. We put up a sign informing drivers. Then we handed out “Oops, you’ve been caught idling tickets”
We wrote letters to our School Trustees and we informed them of the dangers of idling vehicles. They made all of schools idle free zones. Every school in the district displays an anti- idling sign by their parking lot. Our bus garage too!
We are currently taking on plastic bags. We have a dedicated team of 5 students, called the Super Bags. The Super Bags have been researching, presenting and making us aware of the need to deal with plastic bags.
Currently our grade 6/7 class, with the help of the Super Bags, has sent letters to local politicians, school trustees and business leaders asking them to come to our presentation on March 11, 2009. We have 75 minutes of facts, comedy, speeches, presentations and interactive activities to get them thinking about the damage plastic bags do to our environment.
