Objectives • At the end of the session, participants will be able to: • Define tech sex • Describe the “Millennial” generation and their use of technology with sexual behaviors • List relevant sexuality apps • Recognize the short and long term consequences to tech sex.
Millennial Generation • Also known as Generation Y • Born between 1977-1993 (Ages 18-34) • More likely to own a laptop than a desktop computer • More likely to use smartphones for more than just talking • Own more gadgets and use them frequently

Tech Sex • Cybersex is the graphic, detailed exchange of sexual language, video, or images online. • Tech Sex moves beyond the online world, with mobile devices and other technology
Sexting Among Millennials • 59% send sexually suggestive messages • 33% have sent nude or semi-nude pictures of themselves • 47% have shared a sexually suggestive message or photo sent to them • 37% have been shown a sexually suggestive messages or photo intended for someone else

How to Protect Students • Keep the computer in a public place (living room, kitchen, etc) • Monitor what are they doing in cyber space. • Know who they are communicating with. • Set limitations on electronic communication. • Be aware of their public postings. • Set expectations.
Internet by Age and Stage • Ages 7-9 • Email is okay but stay away from IM; buddy lists are too ungovernable. • Use a filter for web browsing • Don't let kids this age into chat rooms, play online games, or download without you.
Internet by Age and Stage • Ages 10-12 • Children will begin to explore on their own for school and for fun. • Girls have an interest in IMing. • Boys are going to explore more on the Internet finding gaming sites and sites with silly and often inappropriate content. • Some kids may want to start experimenting social networks, delay until high school.
Internet by Age and Stage • Ages 13-16 • Age-appropriate for this group to email, IM, surf the Web, download, and play games. • Set ground rules. • Parents may begin to lose control over where their kids use their computers. • Keep your kids off social networking sites until high school at the very earliest.
