3. Brief Introduction China Railway Tunnel Group is the national large-scale construction enterprise with special grade qualification, whose business lines are: design, construction and technical service for various long tunnel & underground works, comprehensive railway project, highway project of various classes, bridge, tunnel, water conservancy and hydro-power tunnel works, municipal project, industrial & civil buildings, coal mining works etc. It is a technology group integrating design, construction, scientific research and manufacture into a single entity.

China Railway Tunnel Group has been devoting herself to the research, development and application of new technology for tunnel and underground works, and has been successively conducting technical exchanges and cooperation with dozens of countries and regions as Germany, Japan, England, France, and Sweden, etc.. She keeps in the leading position in international underground engineering field, especially in the construction of tunnels and underground works.
5. In the past decades, China Railway Tunnel Group has participated in various railway trunk lines and metro projects in China. She has built over 600 railway tunnels, totaling more than 800km long, extra-large and large bridges totaling over 50km long.
6. Since the 1980s China Railway Tunnel Group, supporting by her abundant technical resources and rich tunneling experiences, has conducted the researches on TBM and shield machine. In the early 1990s, she has designed and manufactured independently the China’s first blade shield which has applied successfully in Beijing Metro project. In the middle 1990s, she has imported the world’s most advanced TBM, 8.8m in diameter, from Germany. In the late 1990s, she has imported successively 6 EPB shield machines and 1 slurry shield machine from Germany which has successful applied in the metro projects in Guangzhou, Nanjing and Shenzhen.
7. The successful application of TBM and shield machines marks that China’ tunneling technology steps into a new epoch and reaches international advanced level. Currently, China Railway Tunnel Group is the sole enterprise that has project achievements and management experience in hard rock TBM and shield machine in China.
Through nearly 20 years technology researches and applications of TBM and shield machine, China Railway Tunnel Group has trained a large number of middle and young aged experts in technology and management, and formed an engineering technical team with rich experience.

13. TBM/Shield Tunneling CTG own 19 sets of shield machines & 3 sets of TBMs.
In 1997, CTG imported the first hard rock TBM, and completed the constructions of Qinling Tunnel on Xi’an-Ankang Railway Line and Mogouling Tunnel on Xi’an-Nanjing Railway Line successfully.
Through Qinling tunnel construction, CTG has mastered TBM excavation techniques, advance geological forecasting, advance reinforcement technique, spring treatment in fault and broken zone, and excavation technique in soft & weak rock etc.
14. In 2000, CTG started tunnel excavation with shield method. Up to now, CTG has undertaken 26 shield tunneling projects and 4 hard rock TBM tunneling projects.
During the construction of Yuesan Section tunnel of Guangzhou Metro Line 2, CTG has solved the construction difficulties such as the unbalance of rock hard & soft, drive mode exchange and mastered shield construction technique. CTG has accumulated rich shield tunneling organization & management experiences in the complex geological and surrounding conditions.

The tunnel slope is 5% max. It passes under the sea with 510m length, and water depth is 5 – 17m, and min. overburden is 8.5m depth. Its geology condition is complex and its strength is various between 3 –120Mpa.

35. TBM/SHIELD RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
36. Research & Development In Aug. 2002, CTG established TBM/shield industry base.
After its establishment, CTG has conducted 4 items of State 863 Scient. & Research Program
37. TBM/shield Design & Manufacture CTG has completed design of D6.3m EPB shield machine, and completed the research, design & development & manufacture of shield cutterhead.
In July, 2004, CTG completed the research & manufacture of cutterhead, cutter , hydraulic system for application to the 2650m long excavation of shanghai Metro Line 2, in which average monthly advance rate of 331m and max monthly advance rate 470m were achieved.
In Dec., 2005, it completed the research & manufacture of shield cutterhead suitable for sand & gravel stratum of Beijing Metro Project.
38. Manufacture of Complex Shield & Hard-rock TBM In May, 2005, CTG manufactured D 6.21m complex shield for construction of Xiaoxin Section Tunnel of Guangzhou Metro Line 4, and construction of Lot 19 of Beijing Metro Line 4.
In Dec. 2005, CTG manufactured D8.3m open-type TBM for construction of Dahuofang Transfer Water Tunnel.
39. Design & Simulation Test of Big Diameter Slurry Shield CTG has completed design of D 9m slurry shield.
CTG has completed Design & manufacture of control system simulation test platform. The diameter of simulated shield is 2.5m and it is the only one physical simulation test platform in China with intellectual property rights.
40. Back-up System Manufacture CTG has researched & developed the frequency conversion locomotive, 40t portal crane, muck car, mortar car, segment car etc, transport equipment of back-up system with patents. Some products were sold aboard.
